There are 11 suggestions to question “How long do you think it would take to eliminate the countries debt if weed were legalized/heavily taxed?”

  1. Everybody all ready sells it, so it would not help the nation’s debt because people would still be buying it under the table.

  2. About 600 years.

  3. Much longer than otherwise.

Legalising marijuana would result in even more unemployable people.

Besides, the economic costs of alochol abuse are bad enough – do we want to wind up paying for the consequences and costs of another legal drug?

  4. You can not legalize a weed it grows everywhere and takes much less energy than Alcohol

  5. Yes, except, unlike alcohol, its super easy to grow pot your back yard. People would still be buying it "under the table".

  6. Forever. Why would someone pay a horribly high price for something they have been buying under the table forever. We should use some sense. Who would be working? Everyone would be high.

  7. considering that part of the reason for the debt is the rise of the "if it feels good, it is good" value-system over the last several decades, I do not think further enabling this culture of hedonism is the best idea.

  8. No, weed is easy to get. YOUR KIDS ARE GOING TO PAY. I don’t have any so I don’t care.

  9. it would not eliminate it, but most people wouldn’t remember it.

  10. According to this website, the savings of ending the drug war would be $200 billion a year. The current national debt is $11 trillion. Assuming the budget was otherwise balanced to start with, it would take 55 years.

This website also does even factor in every issue. For example, the import of tens of billions of $$$ of Marijuana from foreign countries devalues the US dollar on global currency exchanges, which in turn pushes up gas prices (note that the US recession actually started with high gas prices before there was ever a problem with the mortgage industry), costs billions more in inflation, devalues the NYSE stock on international markets, etc. If you do an in depth analysis of the economics, the costs of the drug war are even more than $200 billion.

  11. Love how everyone says that everyone will then be unemployed and no one would work, dooms day! OMG!

Cause we all know that everyone who drinks alcohol doesn’t work…

I am not sure how long it would take but I do think there are plenty of good people who would much rather buy from a safe regulated source rather from the friend of a friend who put god knows what in your stash.

Other countries are known for having various brands and "effects" which they are quite literally famous for!
Everyone has there favorite wine and I think it would be a great way to attract tourists from other countries as well!

My entire family still refuses to come to the U.S (from Germany) simply because they see Americans as greedy violent people. I do agree as well and I sure do think most Americans could benefit from such a mellow and relaxing herb.
