If $3K is all your debt you don’t need to hire anyone to resolve this for you….You can make your own settlement offers to the collection agency…..Make an offer in the $1K range….remember that debt collectors buy defaulted debt at substantial discounts….Get all terms in writing first prior to giving them one penny. Do not accept verbal promises over the phone from collection agents. Pay ONLY via USPS…Never give them your checking # to make a payment….they’ll raid your checking account…Paying this off won’t magically fix your credit…..I would only offer to pay them if they give you, in writing, a Pay for Delete agreement to delete the collection item from your credit report upon receipt of your money…

Accurately reported late payments cannot be removed…Only time will heal this issue….

Save your money. Most credit repair companies are scams.

You can settle your own debts. Contact the collector by letter, not phone or email or fax. You want things in writing. Do not acknowledge the debt, as this could restart the Statute of Limitations (SOL), the timeframe to bring lawsuit.

Indicate that you would like to settle this debt to get it removed from your credit report. A lump sum payment of $1500 would probably be accepted. If you need a payment plan, it has to be short term and might take a little more money. Be sure to get any settlement agreement in writing and do not give them access to your bank account.

Late payments will just have to age off. There’s no way to get them removed.
