If I call a debt consolidation group, are my credit cards unusable?

There are 6 suggestions to question “If I call a debt consolidation group, are my credit cards unusable?”

  1. call nope — but once they step in — yes!!!

  2. I’m pretty sure but not positive but why would you continue using them if your having issues with your debt already?

  3. I am not sure if the credit cards are unusable, but if you are even considering a debt consolidation group, you should stop using the cards on your own. Why would you want to consolidate your debt and continue charging on the cards? Also with debt consolidation, make sure you pick a proven, legal company that does not charge you any fees for the service. Good luck!

  4. You want to consolidate your credit card debts and still use your credit cards? Bad, Bad, Bad Idea. You should have learned your lesson this time. Stop using credit cards all together. Use cash or debit for everything from now on. Don’t use debt consolidators. The first three letters are CON. Most of them are cons and dirt-bags. They will take your money for something you can do by yourself without paying them. Read the Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey and this will help you organize your finances and show you how to take care of it yourself. It is a great book and has helped my wife and I out in ways we could only have dreamed of.

  5. I also saw a site you should check out for Debt Strategies http://askinglaw.com/law-question-credit-card-question/

  6. Each debt situation is different, especially when it comes to credit cards. If you have multiple cards with multiple credit card debt, cut all of them except for the one with the lowest interest rate. The best way to avoid using your credit cards is to make them useless. You can have one credit card on hand for dire emergencies but go ahead and cut the others.
If you have multiple credit cards all with enormous interest rates, call each company and see if they’ll lower your interest rates for you. If they won’t, consolidate your credit card debt with a loan. This type of loan allows you to payoff your credit card debt and rolls it over into a loan payment with a better interest rate.
