Some allow you to reduce it by 40%. Explain to them that you want to repay the debt but can't afford to pay all of that. You have to tell them that you are very close to filling for bankruptcy. If they sense that you are really close to defaulting on debt, then they may work something out since it's better than nothing. The most important thing is to get everything in writing!
